Art & Design

                                                                    "Every child is an artist"

                                                         Pablo Picasso

Our broad and balanced curriculum enables our pupils to explore a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art. We encourage reflection and evaluation and celebrate our achievements.

We teach and explore art, through tailored lessons as well as part of a topic; exploring different artists from different parts of the world. We expose children to a wide range of techniques and develop skills so the children have the knowledge to create their own work taking ownership.

Art is an important part of the school curriculum enabling pupils to express themselves creatively and imaginatively. We aim to inspire children and enable pupils to produce lively and expressive work using a range of art, craft and design materials and processes .We work with local artists and take the opportunity for children to and create work collectively and individually with the artists and celebrate our exciting and stimulating learning experiences! The Queens Jubilee was an opportunity to display our work at the local park and celebrate together with families and the community.

We develop the children’s understanding and appreciation of art, artists, and designers work. We further the children’s understanding of colour, form, texture, pattern, line, shape and space, and help them to make thoughtful judgements and practical decisions to enable them to become involved in shaping their environment.

Please feel free to ask any questions as I am always happy to help.

Rosehill Artist at work

We designed our very own 3D creatures for art week.

We selected our materials carefully reviewing and evaluating our work.

Our work was individual and unique. We let our imaginations run free and developed our work.                                                                    We celebrated our work and work of others in the school in assembly.

art week

We celebrated the Queens Jubilee at our local Park by working with Spiral Arts to create Special art work for the occasion.

Beegu needs to go back to Space so we designed and made spaceships for her!

We linked History with Science and Design and Technology to learn about old toys and make our own wooden toy

This is what the children had to say about their experience of making a wooden toy:

' I am enjoying it because I am making it myself.'

'I like making things.'

'I get to make a toy.'

' I loved making my toy because in the end, I get to play with it.'
