Mrs Sangha and Mr Jordan
In FS2 children learn through the Foundation stage framework consisting of 7 areas of learning.
Each day the children have designated activity times in which they will come together in small groups and access a different area of learning through a variety of activities. The children take part in daily mathematics, literacy and phonics sessions to develop their understanding of number, shape, space and measure, reading, writing, letters and sounds.
The children access both indoor and outdoor provision daily which allows them to choose different activities which aim to further enhance and develop their skills.
Through continuous provision, group time and focused activities, we aim to support the children in their learning and development. Continuous observations are made of the children to establish their level of development and track their progress. Observations, photographs and children's work is evidence of each child's learning and development. This information is kept in their learning journeys.
Our aim is to support the children by enhancing and scaffolding their learning and play, watching them as they learn new skills and flourish.
On Friday 18th October we will be holding a meeting at 9 am to discuss phonics and reading in reception. It is essential that you make the time to attend this meeting. We will cover various different aspects of how we teach the children to read in reception and what we expect from you at home. If you are unable to attend this meeting please inform your child’s class teacher and we will make arrangements to meet with you at a more suitable time.
“Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.”
We are excited to have two guinea pigs as part of our reception class this year. Fudge and Honey. The children are already growing very fond of them and showing a keen interest in learning how to care for them. If you would like to take the guinea pigs home for a weekend or even the holidays, there will be a sign up sheet near their hutch.

What a fun and busy summer term so far! Lots of exciting things have been happening in our Reception unit. We started off the term with our healthy week, where we had a special visit from an award winning UK athlete Laura Samuels. The dentist came to talk to the children and the nursery parents. She talked about how to keep your teeth healthy and the importance. Tomiwa from Reception was the winner of our colouring competition and he won a healthy fruit hamper! .
We spent a day with cycle Derby, learning to ride bikes. We've also got a 12 week program called 'funtrition' happening in Reception. The children are learning all about healthy living. We have been learning about life cycles, we've had some chick eggs, frog spawn and we've currently got some caterpillars in.
We have had a visit to pizza express, where we had the opportunity to make our own pizzas. Take a look at our photos below.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018
Welcome back to another jam-packed term. We were so impressed with the children's attitude to learning last term and are we're looking forward to another fantastic term of learning.
Our topic this term is based on 'traditional tales'. We will be reading lots of traditional tales in class and the texts we read will form the basis of our learning. The children will look in detail at the characters in the stories and discuss the settings. They will have the opportunity to watch a 'Cinderella' panto at school and meet the cast. Please have a read of our curriculum newsletter for more information on this half terms learning.
This week is 'National anti-bullying week 2017'. To start the week we have been lucky enough to receive a visit from our local PCO's, PC Ali and PC Malachi. They came into school to speak to us all in assembly about 'bullying' and explained their role in the community. The Reception children were extremely lucky, they had stories read to them and even tried on some of their uniform.
We really enjoyed having PC Ali and PC Malachi in our school. We really hope they can visit again soon!!!
Our topic this half term is 'Ourselves'. We will be learning about our homes, families and our bodies. Have a read of our 'curriculum news' letter to find out more information about the things we will be getting up to in class.
"Please send in a a baby photo and some family photos that your child can share with the class. We will take a photocopy of these to display and return the originals to you.
