Children LEARN!

At Rosehill Infant School, we believe Design and Technology is a joyful and inspiring subject where children’s creativity and curiosity can truly flourish. From their very first experiences in EYFS through to Key Stage One, pupils are encouraged to explore, investigate and bring their ideas to life through hands-on learning. Whether building structures, creating simple mechanisms or preparing healthy foods, children develop a sense of pride in what they make and confidence in their own abilities.

We provide a nurturing environment where children feel safe to take risks, try new ideas and learn from their mistakes. Through designing, making and evaluating, pupils begin to understand the process of creating for a purpose, while developing important skills such as problem-solving, resilience, teamwork and vocabulary needed to design, make and evaluate purposeful products.  Our aim is for every child to leave Rosehill with a love of creating and the confidence to think, design and build independently.

Supporting Your Child at Home

You can support your child’s DT learning by:

  • Encouraging them to build and create using recycled materials
  • Involving them in simple cooking and food preparation
  • Talking about how everyday objects work
  • Allowing them to practise cutting, sticking and joining safely
