Welcome to Year 1!

A very warm welcome to Year 1 at Rosehill Infant and Nursery School.

We are delighted to be part of your child's learning journey and look forward to a year filled with exciting opportunities, new experiences and wonderful achievements. Our Year 1 team is committed to creating a happy, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued, supported and inspired to learn.

At Rosehill, we celebrate the rich diversity of our school community and believe that every child has unique talents and strengths. Through engaging, hands-on learning experiences, we encourage children to develop confidence, curiosity and resilience as they grow both academically and personally.

We understand how important your child's education is and recognise the vital role that parents and carers play in supporting learning. By working closely together, we can help every child achieve their very best and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Key Information about Year 1

The Year 1 team are:

Teachers: Mrs Hardy and Miss Barber

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Asghar (HLTA), Mrs Mehmood (HLTA), Miss Robinson.

We will also welcome teaching students from the University of Derby over the school year.

Just a quick reminder of important information for Year 1:

Children to bring a named water bottle every day. No juice please.
Please do not send in snacks. We will provide the children with fruit.
PE days are Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child is wearing their PE kit for school on these days. Also, no jewellery please.
All clothing needs name labels.
Children do not need to bring in pencils, pens or toys from home.
Children are given weekly homework that relates to their school work. It may be Maths, English or a topic including spelling. Homework is handed out on Thursdays and returned by the following Thursday.
Reading books are changed once a week. Please listen to your child read regularly.

We use Class Dojo to communicate with parents and carers. Please ask at the office if you need information on how to access Class Dojo.

What are we learning about this half-term? Here you can find out a bit more about our current learning. In year one, we love to encourage independent learning through enjoyment, creativity and challenge. We will be adding photographs of the children's learning opportunities as we go on through the year. You will also find website links to support your children in their learning. We're looking forward to seeing the children achieve their full potential. Here's to an exciting term of learning!

Topics in Year 1

Each half-term in Year 1 begins with an engaging and stimulating topic that forms the foundation for cross-curricular learning across most subjects. To support children's learning at home, we provide parents and carers with a curriculum newsletter and knowledge organisers, which outline the key concepts, skills and facts pupils are expected to learn during each topic.
