Art Intent
At Rosehill Infant and Nursery School, we believe that Art is a vital part of children’s creative development and self-expression. Our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, imagination and confidence, giving all children the opportunity to explore and develop their own artistic voice.
We aim to provide a rich and engaging Art curriculum that allows pupils, from Nursery through to Key Stage 1, to experiment with a wide range of materials, techniques and processes. Through drawing, painting, sculpture and other creative experiences, children develop their skills alongside an understanding of colour, pattern, texture and form.
Our curriculum introduces children to a diverse range of artists, craftspeople and designers, helping them to appreciate different styles and cultures. We encourage pupils to talk about their work, share ideas and reflect on their creations, developing both confidence and language.
Art at Rosehill is carefully sequenced to build skills progressively over time, allowing children to revisit and refine techniques. We place a strong emphasis on creativity and exploration, supporting children to take risks, make choices and learn from the process as well as the final outcome.
By the time children leave Rosehill, we aim for them to feel proud of their creativity, confident in expressing themselves and inspired to continue exploring Art in the future.
