Curriculum Intent
At Rosehill Infant and Nursery School, we aim to inspire children’s curiosity about the past and help them develop an understanding of how the world has changed over time. Our History curriculum is designed to give all pupils, from Nursery through to Key Stage 1, a strong foundation in historical knowledge, skills and vocabulary.
We want children to develop a sense of chronology, beginning with their own lives and experiences before exploring events beyond living memory. Through engaging topics, stories and enquiry-based learning, pupils are introduced to significant individuals, key events and aspects of local history, helping them to make meaningful connections between the past and present.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge progressively, ensuring that children revisit and deepen their understanding over time. We place a strong emphasis on developing curiosity, questioning and discussion, encouraging pupils to think like historians by asking questions, exploring evidence and sharing their ideas.
We are committed to providing an ambitious and inclusive curriculum that supports all learners. By the time children leave Rosehill, they will have developed confidence in talking about the past, an understanding of how things change over time, and a growing interest in history that will support their future learning.
