Implementation
Implementation
Music is taught through the Sparkyard curriculum across Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, ensuring progression in knowledge, skills and vocabulary whilst meeting the expectations of the National Curriculum and Model Music Curriculum.
Children receive at least one hour of music education each week through:
- Weekly specialist music lessons delivered by Mrs Katie Woodwright.
- Follow-up curriculum sessions delivered by class teachers.
- Weekly whole-school singing assemblies that develop vocal skills and support PSHE, SMSC and British Values.
- Music is embedded throughout school life through:
- Daily singing and musical routines in EYFS, including nursery rhymes, topic songs and transition songs.
- Seasonal and cultural celebrations including Harvest, Eid and Christmas.
- Performances, assemblies and whole-school events.
- Opportunities to explore musicians, composers and musical traditions from around the world.
- Inclusive practice that ensures all children, including those with SEND, can fully participate.
- Cross-curricular links that support language development, cultural understanding and personal development.
- Our specialist music teacher works alongside staff to support the delivery of high-quality music teaching and performance opportunities across the school.
IMPACT
Children leave Rosehill with a love of music and the confidence to participate, perform and express themselves creatively.
Pupils:

- Sing confidently and perform with increasing accuracy and enjoyment.
- Understand and appreciate a wide range of musical styles, cultures and traditions.
- Develop listening, communication and language skills, particularly supporting those learning English as an Additional Language.
- Demonstrate increased creativity, resilience, collaboration and self-confidence.
- Engage positively with performances, celebrations and musical experiences throughout the year.
- Show pride in their achievements and embody our REACH values through music-making.
Through our music curriculum and wider musical experiences, children develop cultural capital, a sense of belonging and the confidence to communicate and thrive within our diverse school community and beyond.
